Position: Logistics Officer (Transport) – NOB

Organizational Context:

Based in the Ethiopia Country Office (ETCO), this role involves contributing to the daily planning and coordination of commercial transport operations under WFP’s Supply Chain unit, reporting to the Deputy Head of Operations.


Purpose and Background:

The WFP Ethiopia office supports over 4.7 million beneficiaries amid increasing food insecurity. This position ensures efficient transport logistics for food distribution across the country, in response to a complex operational environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee planning for inland and overland transport activities, managing resource allocation for WFP fleets and commercial transporters.
  • Supervise Supply Chain staff, set objectives, and ensure adherence to WFP transport and logistics standards.
  • Liaise with internal and external counterparts, including ports and ministries, to ensure high performance within the WFP Ethiopia Supply Chain.
  • Develop logistics processes aligned with WFP policies for effective food assistance delivery.
  • Collect and analyze logistics data to optimize transport operations and support decision-making.
  • Facilitate capacity building for WFP staff and partners, ensuring effective food assistance delivery.
  • Maintain emergency preparedness by contributing to Logistics Capacity Assessments (LCAs) and process reviews.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Advanced or first university degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Management, or related fields, or relevant experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years in logistics management, preferably within a humanitarian organization.
  • Skills: Proficiency in managing teams, transport operations, and knowledge of freight markets. Experience with import/export processes and corporate systems is advantageous.
  • Languages: Fluency in English and Amharic.
