About AHRI
The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was established in 1970 through the support of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations and Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health. Named after Dr. Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who discovered the leprosy bacillus, AHRI has over 50 years of experience as a research hub focused on advancing biomedical research and technology transfer in Ethiopia. AHRI, currently under the Federal Ministry of Health, has played a significant role in research impacting population health within Ethiopia and beyond.
Job Description
The Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases Research Directorate at AHRI seeks motivated Junior Researchers (Malaria Microscopists) to join their team.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Conduct malaria microscopy, including diagnosis, species identification, and parasite load assessment.
- Prepare and examine specimens, document observations, and record or capture microscopic images.
- Collaborate with laboratory and data management teams.
- Perform additional tasks as required by the Malaria Research Team.
Skills and Competencies:
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Self-driven, motivated, and able to work under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Team-oriented and flexible to assist others and work outside regular hours if necessary.
Qualifications:
- Education: BSc Degree in Laboratory Sciences/Technology from a recognized institution.
- Experience: Prior experience in malaria microscopy is preferred.
