About EAS:
The Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (EAS) is a non-profit and non-governmental organization established in 2010 and recognized by the Act of Parliament in 2013. EAS promotes scientific inquiry, creativity, and excellence in the sciences among Ethiopians. The Academy provides evidence-based policy advice to the government and other stakeholders, undertakes consensus studies, and organizes public lectures, conferences, and workshops on national priority issues. EAS is also in the process of establishing Ethiopia’s first science center to promote public understanding of science and technology.


1. IT Officer

Location: Addis Ababa
Reports to: Executive Director

Job Summary:
The IT Officer will develop, maintain, and upgrade EAS IT facilities and systems, administer the website, facilitate online training and meetings, and participate in the activities of the Science Center.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the overall operations of ICT strategies in line with the EAS strategic plan.
  • Oversee the purchase, integration, and maintenance of computer and communication systems.
  • Ensure the security of data, network access, and backup systems.
  • Develop, administer, and update the EAS website.
  • Provide IT-related technical support and training to EAS units.
  • Participate in training STEM students and teachers in various IT-related subjects.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Deputy Executive Director.

Qualifications:

  • Education: MSc/BSc in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related fields from a recognized university.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years for MSc or 6 years for BSc in IT officer, system administrator, programmer, or relevant positions.
  • Preferred Skills: Proficiency in programming languages like C, C++, Python, Java; computer networking, database system administration, AI, and computer system troubleshooting.

2. BGHWS Creative Art Center Assistant

Location: Addis Ababa
Reports to: BGHWS Creative Art Center Director

Job Summary:
The BGHWS Creative Art Center Assistant will be responsible for the day-to-day activities of the center, including planning, producing, and distributing various events related to art and culture.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing policies, strategies, and guidelines for the center.
  • Plan and implement creative directions to meet the center’s objectives.
  • Ensure the chosen themes and topics are inclusive of all art disciplines.
  • Promote the public image of the center and engage with stakeholders.
  • Prepare reports and perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

Qualifications:

  • Education: BA or MA in Literature, Folklore, Theater Art, Journalism, Film, Music, Fine Arts, or related fields.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of related work experience for BA or MA degree holders, with a passion for organizing events.
  • Skills: Proficiency in written and spoken English and Amharic, computer skills, and social media proficiency.

3. Science Center Director

Location: Addis Ababa
Reports to: Deputy Executive Director

Job Summary:
The Science Center Director is responsible for the overall coordination, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the science center’s activities, including fundraising, public outreach, and staff management.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and manage the science center’s activities.
  • Develop policies and strategies for resource generation.
  • Coordinate educational programs and public outreach campaigns.
  • Supervise and support staff, and ensure the development of high-performing teams.
  • Liaise with governmental and non-governmental organizations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Deputy Executive Director.

Qualifications:

  • Education: PhD or MSc/MA in Science, Technology, Health, Agriculture, Social Sciences, or related fields.
  • Experience: 6–8 years of relevant work experience, including 2 years in a senior managerial position.
  • Skills: Leadership, effective communication, team management, and knowledge of natural and social science developments.
