Position: Accountant

Location: Bole Arabsa, Addis Ababa


Job Summary:

The Accountant will handle invoicing, billing, reconciliation, journal entries, financial statements, and maintain fixed asset systems. The role includes compiling grant applications, preparing reports, maintaining records, and assisting with confidential correspondence. The Accountant will work within a cross-functional team to analyze monthly financial statements, draft explanations for variances, and make necessary adjustments.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Data Entry and Reconciliation:
  • Enter data for sales, purchases, receipts, payments, and bank reconciliation.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and bank statements.
  • Processing and Record Maintenance:
  • Process invoices, expense forms, payment requests, and manage petty cash.
  • Maintain accounting records, and perform account analyses and reconciliations.
  • Financial Reporting:
  • Prepare journal entries, financial statements, and various financial documents.
  • Use statistical, economic, and financial principles to prepare reports.
  • Grant and Invoice Management:
  • Coordinate customer invoices, grant billings, and ensure reconciliation with the general ledger.
  • Monitor and mail periodic financial documents required by clients, creditors, and agencies.
  • Assisting with Month-End Closing:
  • Assist with month-end closing, correct journal entries, and prepare financial statements.
  • Confidential Duties:
  • Assist the CFO with confidential reports and payroll duties.
  • Manage the fixed asset system, including journal entries and depreciation schedules.

Job Requirements:

  • Qualification: BA degree in Accounting from a recognized higher education institution.
  • Experience: 4+ years in a relevant sector.
  • Skills and Abilities:
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with customers and external contacts.
  • Proactive, well-organized, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
