1. Junior Communication Specialist
Project: WIDU.africa
Contract Duration: September 30, 2026

Background:
The WIDU project provides grants in connection with existing flows of money from private individuals within the African diaspora in Germany, France, Austria, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, and Sweden. The project redirects these flows of money into long-term investments in businesses of relatives or friends in one of six African countries (Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Togo, Tunisia). The central tool for the project is the online platform WIDU.africa, which allows members of the African diaspora in seven European countries, along with friends and relatives living in Ethiopia and other African countries, to apply for funding for their businesses and business ideas. The focus is on small and micro businesses in the informal economy in any industry. Alongside a grant, the entrepreneurs are also accompanied by a business coach throughout the implementation period.
Skill and Educational Background:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Digital Marketing, Digital Media, Entrepreneurship, Business Administration, or another relevant field.
- Language: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Amharic.
- Professional Experience: A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in the field of communications, digitalization, or entrepreneurship roles.
- Advanced familiarity with digital tools and digital platforms including Microsoft 360 and social media management tools.
- Demonstrated ability to write short reports and produce effective PowerPoint presentations.
- Proficiency in conducting research, analyzing data, and generating insights related to diaspora communities, their contributions, and their potential impact on various sectors.
- Experience in project management is beneficial.

Project: Green Innovation Centers for the Agriculture and Food Sector (GIC) Ethiopia

Background:
The Green Innovation Centre (GIC) supports the Ethiopian government with the development of the agricultural sector to improve the food supply chain, foster income generation opportunities, and target employment creation. The focal area of the project is to support and improve the wheat, faba bean (legumes), and honey value chains through the promotion of modern agricultural innovations and technologies, tailored training in Good Agriculture Practices (GAP), high-quality seeds and agricultural inputs as well as agro-processing and marketing. The GIC implements its activities in the so-called Ethiopian Wheat Belt in the Arsi-Zone of Oromia region since 2015, East and West Gojam and South Wollo since 2020, and North Shoa since 2021 in Amhara region. As the project is heading towards its phasing-out, an anchoring strategy is developed together with key stakeholders and implementation partners. The importance of communication on the project’s achievements increases at this stage and it becomes crucial to share best practices and lessons learned via several platforms and media within GIZ and the development community.
Skill and Educational Background:
- Education: Degree in Communication and Knowledge Management, Graphical Layout, Communication Technologies, Rural Development & Agricultural Extension, or related fields.
- Professional Experience:
- Completed degree.
- Internship experience with international development projects is an additional asset.
- Experience in one of the following fields is desirable: photography, video production, or impact story outline.
Other Knowledge and Additional Competencies:
- Very good editorial skills.
- Fluent English language skills (writing and verbal communication).
- Excellent computer skills, especially MS Office applications (MS Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
