Institute for Security Studies (ISS) Vacancy Announcement

The ISS is seeking an intern based in Addis Ababa to support the Training for Peace (TfP) project activities. This internship provides a unique opportunity to contribute to research on peace operations in Africa and better understand peace and security dynamics on the continent, as well as relevant United Nations (UN) and African Union (AU) frameworks.

Position: Research Intern, Training for Peace

Overview of Requirements:

  • Education: A post-graduate degree in peace and security studies, international relations, political science, African studies, or a related field.
  • Skills and Interests:
  • Good research and analytical skills with an interest in Africa’s peace and conflict dynamics, peace missions, and UN and AU peace and security frameworks.
  • Individuals with work or research experience in African peace and security frameworks, and UN and AU peace operations, are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with proficiency in French being an advantage.
  • Computer literacy with working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and data analysis software (e.g., Excel, SPSS, or R) is advantageous.
  • Organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Enthusiasm for teamwork and collaboration in a dynamic, multicultural environment.

Overview of Duties:

  • Assist in researching African peace and security dynamics, the African Peace and Security Architecture, and other issues relevant to TfP’s work.
  • Assist in conducting research and analysis on UN and AU peace operations.
  • Assist in organizing and coordinating events.
  • Assist with planning communication and coordination.
  • Assist with administration and logistics.
  • Undertake other activities assigned by the TfP Project Manager.

Contract Details:

  • Duration: 6 months.
  • Compensation: A monthly stipend will be offered.
  • Place of Work: Addis Ababa.
