1. SENIOR WASH OFFICER
Location: Bahir Dar (with frequent travel to the field)
Duration: Six-month contract, renewable based on performance review and availability of funds
Job Summary:
The Senior WASH Officer will be based in Bahir Dar and frequently deployed to the field for the successful implementation of WASH project activities, including infrastructure constructions and maintenance works. Responsibilities include ensuring water supply, hygiene, and sanitation activities are implemented in line with humanitarian standards, project designs, and Sphere and cluster standards. The officer will oversee engineering estimates, drawings, BoQ, tender documents, and subcontract work with local consultants. They will also collaborate with woreda/zone water bureaus technical experts and ensure integration with livelihood, nutrition, and health programming.
Skill and Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in Hydrology and Water Resources Management, Hydraulic Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline with hands-on WASH experience and training.
- At least 2 years of relevant work experience in humanitarian setups, preferably with international NGOs.
- Proficiency in verbal and written English.
- Strong project planning, design, implementation, and M&E skills.
- Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relations with multicultural teams.
- Ability to work in hardship conditions, collect data, and work long hours.
- Experience in networking, influencing, and negotiation.
- Knowledge of government systems and policy environment, specifically at Woreda level.
- Firm belief in teamwork, gender equality, and sustainable development programming.
- Demonstrated skills in computer software and design applications (CAD, Spreadsheets, etc.).
