Position: Junior Electrician

Job Summary

The Junior Electrician is responsible for undertaking routine tasks to assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.

Main Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the Engineering & Utility Unit Supervisor, the Junior Electrician shall carry out the following duties:

  • Repair, construct, install, troubleshoot, and maintain routine electrical systems and equipment.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Disassemble motors, generators, and other equipment in preparation for repair.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of the system.
  • Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, including oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps.
  • Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors.
  • Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and ordering supplies and equipment.
  • Work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Diagnose and test malfunctioning machinery and discuss malfunctions with other facility personnel.
  • Calibrate and adjust all electrical/electronic equipment according to manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Troubleshoot motors, pumps, compressors, and any other systems in the plant.
  • Place conduit (pipes or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.
  • Perform other related activities when instructed by the supervisor.

Skills and Educational Background:

  • College Diploma, TVET 10+3 or 10+4, level III or IV in electricity or electrical/electronic equipment servicing management/Mechatronics & instrumentation servicing management, instrumentation & control servicing, electronic equipment servicing, or another related field of study.
  • No work experience is required (zero years).

Skills Required:

  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Proactive and commitment to outcome.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical equipment.
