Position: Finance Officer – Savings Account

Child Safeguarding:

  • Level 2: The role involves access to personal data about children and/or young people. A police check at the standard level (or equivalent) will be required.

Role Purpose:

The Finance Officer will assist the Finance Coordinator with various financial activities, including petty cash management, recording offline GLACOS, and processing payments. The role also includes quality control, financial reporting, and ensuring appropriate systems and procedures are in place for effective financial management in compliance with Save the Children policies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Payments and Cash Management:
  • Prepare and effect bank payment vouchers for approved payments.
  • Ensure timely vendor payments and proper documentation.
  • Handle petty cash and maintain accurate records.
  • Manage staff work advances and travel advances to ensure timely settlement.
  • Financial Recording and Reporting:
  • Properly code all bank and petty cash transactions as per the chart of accounts.
  • Prepare General Ledger and Cash Offline Spreadsheets (GLACOS).
  • Ensure safe custody of petty cash funds, legal documents, and other financial materials.
  • Documentation:
  • Properly document all financial records and stamp paid documents.
  • Scan and maintain financial documents for easy accessibility.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education:
  • BA degree in Accounting or equivalent education and work experience.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in handling petty cash.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and accounting software.
  • Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Fluency in English, Amharic, and Afar.
  • Commitment to Save the Children values and ability to work effectively in teams.
