The organization focuses on improving the lives of vulnerable communities through integrated development programs in livelihood enhancement, education, and health, while addressing cross-cutting issues such as children empowerment, environmental protection, adolescent and youth sexual reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, and inclusiveness.
Mary Joy Ethiopia seeks to recruit an Accountant for the USAID-funded project, Family Focused HIV Prevention, Care, and Treatment Services in Dilla, Southern Ethiopia.
Job Summary
The Accountant will be responsible for preparing payments, processing financial transactions, reconciling accounts, entering data into the accounting system, and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the organization’s financial policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Verify and ensure required documentation and authorization before payments and data entry.
- Process payments and ensure adequate documentation.
- Perform funding accounting operations and ensure compliance with USAID requirements.
- Ensure proper application of accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
- Write checks based on approved vouchers and ensure proper documentation before payment.
- Ensure timely payment of invoices and tax liabilities.
- Enter all financial data into accounting systems.
- Reconcile bank statements with books of accounts.
- File financial documents and reports.
- Prepare journal entries for transfers, corrections, and adjustments.
- Prepare cash transfer letters.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
- BA Degree in Accounting or a related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.
Technical and Other Skills
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Well-organized with professional and ethical conduct.
- Competency in computer applications and accounting software.
- Problem-solving and analytical skills.
