The U.S. Embassy Addis Ababa is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Agriculture Specialist. Below are the details of the position:

Position: Agriculture Specialist

  • Salary:
  • FSN-11: 26,638.00 USD per year (Locally Employed Staff)
  • FSN-10: 21,803.00 USD per year (Locally Employed Staff)
  • USEFM: Final grade/step will be determined by Washington (FP-04 or FP-05)

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) in Ethiopia and other Horn of Africa countries (Djibouti, Eritrea, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia).
  • Monitor, analyze, and prepare reports on agricultural, marketing, and trade policy developments for assigned commodities.
  • Work with U.S. and host country government agencies to resolve trade complaints, import regulation compliance issues, and administer market development programs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships at mid-to-high levels for trade and agricultural policy matters.

Qualification Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Food and Agricultural Marketing, Agriculture, Agribusiness, International Trade, or Public Policy.
  • Experience:
  • For FSN-10: Minimum 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • For FSN-11: Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Languages: Fluency in both English and Amharic (Speaking/Reading/Writing).
  • Skills:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to analyze agricultural production, trade concepts, and economic supply/demand concepts.
  • Strong time management and communication skills.
