Addis Ababa University (AAU), established in 1950 as the University College of Addis Ababa (UCAA), is the oldest and largest higher education and research institution in Ethiopia. AAU has been a leading center for teaching, research, and community service for over seven decades.
AAU has grown significantly from its initial enrollment of 33 students in 1950 to a current enrollment of 48,673 students (33,940 undergraduates, 13,000 Master’s students, and 1,733 PhD candidates) with a staff of 6,043 (2,408 academics and 3,635 support staff). Across 14 campuses, AAU offers 70 undergraduate programs and 293 graduate programs, including 72 PhD and 221 Master’s programs.
