Purpose of the Internship:

The African Union Internship Program provides an opportunity for interns to complement their educational experience and develop professional skills through hands-on experience at the AU. This full-time program aims to foster participants’ personal and professional development in various fields, while promoting respect for diversity, teamwork, and collaboration within an intercultural environment.


Focus Areas:

Interns will provide administrative and technical support for the effective implementation of African Union programs, projects, and activities in various departments, including:

  • Cabinet of the Chairperson
  • Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS)
  • Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation (ESTI)
  • Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development (HHS)
  • Women, Gender, and Youth (WGY)
  • And more…

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Actively enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree program, OR
  • Must have obtained a Bachelor’s degree or an advanced/post-graduate (Masters) qualification in a related field
  • Nationals of an African Union Member State
  • Fluent in at least one AU working language (Arabic, English, French, or Portuguese)
  • No more than 32 years old at the time of selection
  • High standard of moral conduct and integrity
  • No criminal convictions (excluding minor traffic offences)
  • Prior work experience is not required
