World Health Organization Ethiopia Vacancy Announcement

The World Health Organization (WHO) Ethiopia invites qualified and competent applicants for the following vacant post.

1: External Relations Officer

Contract Duration: Two (2) years

Primary Location: Ethiopia-Addis Ababa

Salary: USD 64,121 yearly

Objectives of the Programme:
The WHO Liaison Office to the AU and ECA aims to build constructive partnerships with the AU organs and UNECA to advance the continental public health agenda. This includes influencing AU and UNECA debates and actions on health, technical collaboration across health and health-related issues, and monitoring developments at the continental level relevant to WHO.

Description of Duties:
Under the direct supervision of the Head of the WHO Liaison Office to the AU and ECA, the incumbent will perform the following functions:

  • Generate intelligence on the evolving health interests of UN partners and main health donors working with the AU for possible use by WHO in strengthening partnerships and raising resources.
  • Support the drafting of proposals by WHO programs, development of donor briefings, reports, and feedback on WHO collaboration with AU and UNECA.
  • Maintain external relations through innovative approaches (e.g., quarterly partner briefings on WHO’s work with the AU and UNECA); while concisely, clearly, and convincingly communicating WHO’s overall work on the African Continent.
  • Work with Africa CDC and AUC communications counterparts to prepare joint communication and joint actions, including the revision of joint action plans and cooperation frameworks.
  • Develop regular internal and external communication products in liaison with WHO Communication teams, including using social media platforms.

Skill and Educational Background:

  • Essential:
  • First University degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Political Sciences, Business Administration, Communications, Public Health, Management, or Economics from an accredited/recognized institute.
  • At least five years’ related experience at the national and international level in external relations, resource mobilization, and/or communications. Documented achievements in resource mobilization activities.
  • Desirable:
  • Additional certificate/diploma/degree in resource mobilization and communicating about partnerships. Training in donor intelligence, proposal writing, and general project management. A Master’s degree in the relevant areas will be an advantage.
  • Experience in WHO, other UN agencies, or in a similar field.

Remuneration:
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 64,121 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 3259 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
