Position Overview

The Specialist, WASH Engineer will ensure high standards and quality in water supply and small-scale irrigation construction and rehabilitation activities. The role requires strong engineering, communication, and supervisory skills, as well as the ability to create and review technical specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervision: Oversee new and rehabilitation construction of water supply and small-scale irrigation projects.
  • Quality Assurance: Review and provide recommendations on technical designs, drawings, specifications, and standards of construction.
  • Documentation: Prepare takeoff sheets, payment certificates, and as-built drawings in consultation with contractors and WASH engineers.
  • Field Work: Frequently travel to construction sites to oversee and report on the progress and quality of projects.
  • Collaboration: Conduct regular review meetings with the WASH team, consortium partners, and stakeholders.
  • Technical Feedback: Provide corrective feedback and ensure quality results under community management.

Deliverables

  • Supervision plans and reports with clear recommendations.
  • Documented comments for consortium partners with follow-up actions.
  • Technical quality assessment tools and reviews.
  • Program briefs, learning notes, and other communication products.
  • Progress reports.

Required Qualifications

  • MSc/BSc in Water Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum four years (MSc) or six years (BSc) of water engineering experience, preferably with a development or emergency/humanitarian organization.
  • Proficiency in engineering software (AutoCAD and EPHANET/WATERCAD mandatory).
  • Strong interaction record with USAID and other stakeholders is a plus.
  • Experience in the construction and rehabilitation of drinking water and small-scale irrigation facilities.
  • Excellent technical quality assurance and improvement skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge of local languages and context is an added advantage.
