Position: Integrated Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) Intern

About Amref:

About Integrated Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) Project:

The Integrated Health System Strengthening Project, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), is implemented by Amref Health Africa and MOH. It supports health systems strengthening for primary health care (PHC) in Ethiopia, focusing on sub-national levels with links to national efforts. The project integrates key HSS pillars—HRH, HCF, Data, and Leadership and Governance—to optimize health systems for improved service delivery.

Role Description:

HSS interns will support various teams within the project to deliver activities, receiving guidance and capacity-building support. The internship aims to build technical and leadership capabilities, preparing interns to become future leaders and technical experts in the non-profit health sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support country office staff in project technical implementation (50%), operations and leadership (25%), and monitoring and evaluation (25%).
  • Participate in reviewing proposals, research tools, guidelines, and other project documents.
  • Conduct basic research on HSS-related topics as requested by program teams.
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing various documents.
  • Organize meetings, events, and other engagements as assigned.
  • Prepare meeting notes and briefs of various project engagements.
  • Update/input project data and information into AIMS regularly.
  • Participate in capacity-building activities and events facilitated by the program or Amref.
  • Undertake other assignments as directed by project staff.

About You:

  • MD or University degree in social sciences, development, public health, project planning and management, or other relevant fields.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Good team player and values diversity.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Passion for bringing lasting change in health in Africa and creating positive social impact.
