Position Overview:
FSD Ethiopia is seeking dynamic and motivated interns to join our Climate Finance Pillar. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to Ethiopia’s climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts by supporting research, analysis, and stakeholder mapping. The interns will focus on identifying opportunities and developing pipelines for climate finance within the private sector, engaging key stakeholders to enhance environmental resilience and promote sustainable economic development in Ethiopia.
Key Responsibilities:
Research and Analysis:
- Conduct targeted scoping exercises to identify viable options for mobilizing climate finance for Ethiopia’s private sector.
- Share research findings on green fiscal incentives, climate finance mechanisms, and potential investable projects with relevant stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for climate finance in sectors such as agriculture, energy, and transportation.
- Assist in exploring the potential for mobilizing private sector capital towards gender-responsive and community-centred climate solutions.
- Support in assessing the gender-differentiated impacts of existing climate finance mechanisms and identify gender-specific barriers in accessing climate finance.
- Ensure climate financing research and initiatives have a strong gender focus.
Stakeholder Mapping:
- Assist in mapping and engaging with key stakeholders, including government agencies, financial institutions, and private sector entities involved in climate finance.
- Reconnect with the Accounting and Auditing Board of Ethiopia (AABE) to discuss ESG reporting frameworks and standards.
- Collaborate with the Ministry of Planning (MoP) to refine Green Climate Fund (GCF) concept notes and proposals.
- Engage with private sector stakeholders to identify and develop a pipeline of climate finance projects.
- Collaborate with gender-focused organizations to leverage their expertise on gender-responsive climate finance initiatives.
Compliance to FSDE Policies:
- Adhere to FSD’s Staff Code of Conduct, Safeguarding, and other policies designed to ensure the maximum protection of program participants.
Skill and Educational Background:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Environmental Science, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Strong research and analytical skills with a keen interest in climate finance and sustainable development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of climate finance mechanisms and sustainable investment practices is a plus.
- Good knowledge of gender and climate actions.
- Proven experience in extracurricular activities.
