Vacancy Announcement at World Bank

The World Bank Ethiopia Country Office is seeking up to three (3) short-term consultants to support energy sector engagement in Ethiopia. These positions are based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and are open to Ethiopian nationals.

Position 1: ET Consultant

Selection Criteria:

  • Minimum of Master’s degree in economics (PhD preferred), international development, or related field.
  • Five years or more of relevant professional experience in applied research, gender, impact evaluations, and policy dialogue required.
  • Fieldwork experience in Ethiopia (or elsewhere in Sub-Saharan Africa) executing impact evaluations or conducting similar research, including survey design and implementation, is required.
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills, including a strong econometrics background, and proficiency in using STATA.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Behavioral competencies that facilitate dialogue with government, country partners, and country teams, including listening skills, capacity development skills, and the ability to adapt advice to local institutional realities.
  • Commitment to teamwork, knowledge-sharing, and ability to influence across organizational boundaries.
  • Fluent in English and Amharic; knowledge of additional languages spoken in Ethiopia is preferred.
  • Willing and able to undertake travel.
  • Familiarity with World Bank operations and procedures is preferred.

Position 2: Operations Officer

Selection Criteria:

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Law, Finance, Business, or a closely related field.
  • At least 7 years of relevant professional experience with a focus on delivering private sector and financial sector/investment climate reforms in Ethiopia.
  • Strong skills and demonstrated track record in delivering advisory engagements, particularly in the areas of private sector development as well as financial sector issues.
  • Understanding of Ethiopia’s business environment for the private sector and opportunities for private sector investments, with great knowledge of key stakeholders in this area.
  • Existing/established network with relevant Ethiopian stakeholders in government and the private sector would be an advantage.
  • Understanding of IFC and WBG products/instruments and opportunities for cross-organizational collaboration. Demonstrable experience working on IFC and WBG products will be an advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and aptitude to learn new systems is a must.
  • Ability to use project management systems is a plus.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills, plus fluency in English, is a must.
