Job Vacancy: Regional Gender And Youth Integration Officer

JOB SUMMARY:

The position holder will provide technical assistance and capacity building on gender and youth integration to the Healthy Behaviors Activities implementing field offices and stakeholders’ staff in the operational areas. This role involves working across the project and consortium partners focusing on social and behavior change for health with an intersectional focus on gender dimensions and health. The officer will support the development and implementation of the project’s gender, youth, and social inclusion strategy and actively participate in project design, implementation, reporting, and monitoring based on ActionAid Ethiopia’s and donors’ requirements.

Key Activities:

  • Create Enabling Environment for Gender Equitable and Healthy Behaviors:
  • Design local innovative approaches to address harmful practices such as child marriage, early and forced marriage, and FGM.
  • Support improved capacities in the field office to ensure gender equality through gender transformation interventions.
  • Support in the processes of conducting the project’s Gender, Youth, and Social Inclusion Analysis, aligning with the project’s overall formative research plans.
  • Provide technical contributions in the assigned project implementation areas, including social and behavior change (SBC) strategies and capacity strengthening activities related to gender and social inclusion, SGBV, human rights, accountability, and good governance with a focus on equitable and quality health services.
  • Disseminate Learning and Ensure Staff Updates:
  • Ensure all staff at the field office level are updated on gender equitable and healthy behavior.
  • Implement ActionAid best practices and approaches related to the above areas.
  • Implement Project Activities:
  • Assist in the development of advocacy and engagement materials, media, and other tools.
  • Incorporate gender-responsive and inclusive health and other services.
  • Develop and implement strategies to actively engage youth in various programs and initiatives.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages youth to express their needs, ideas, opinions, and concerns.
  • Support in the development of the project’s gender and social inclusion strategy and related assessments, including understanding gender dynamics in emergency settings or during health shocks.
  • Provide ongoing backstopping and technical support to staff.
  • Perform other related activities.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education:
  • B.A. degree in Social Science, Gender Studies, Public Health, Development Studies, or other related disciplines with a health-related background.
  • Experience:
  • 3-5 years of work experience in gender or social and behavioral change, including Gender-Based Violence and case management.
  • Good understanding of the context of women, girls, and youth issues in Ethiopia’s social, political, economic, and cultural context.
  • At least 2 years of work experience in gender transformative analysis, training, and mainstreaming.
  • Experience and commitment to align and work with people living in poverty, particularly women and marginalized/excluded groups.
  • Experience in social inclusion and youth programming approaches and strategies.
  • A good knowledge of HRBA programming and Feminist approaches.
  • Ability in the use of gender and intersectionality analysis tools in the health sector.
  • Understanding of national Gender and Women’s policy environment and local and national gender issues.
  • Knowledge of the local language.

Desirable Knowledge and Experience:

  • Gender-related work in an NGO setting.
  • Previous experience with social and behavioral and health-related programs.
