1: ESO – Emergency Surgical Officer

Job Description:

Main Responsibility:

The Emergency Surgical Officer (ESO) reports to the Regional Head of Program in Addis and supports the project staff in managing and providing technical assistance to healthcare facilities, with a particular focus on hospitals. The goal is to increase access to basic health and nutritional services in the project target Woreda.

Expected Results:

  1. Ensure project activities are carried out as per plan and project funds are used in accordance with the approved budget and adequately monitored.
  2. Provide technical assistance to the healthcare personnel of the facilities involved.
  3. Integrate project activities into government plans and implement them in close collaboration with all actors involved.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop the operational weekly work plan for the project activities in collaboration with project staff.
  • Perform weekly checks on the progress of activities.
  • Provide backstop and technical assistance to health facilities.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with local authorities at different levels, donors, financiers of actions in the same area, communities, and other local and international NGOs.
  • Develop the purchase plan for drugs, consumables, and equipment based on the needs encountered in the healthcare facilities, in collaboration with the Project Officer, the Administrator, and the Addis Ababa Office.
  • Monitor the progress of activities and ensure monitoring of indicators.
  • Process and transmit project reports in coordination with the Project Officer.

Salary Range:
From 43,000 to 52,000 ETB, depending on experience.

Duration:
16 months, with possible extensions.


Skills and Educational Background:

  • Graduate Diploma (or equivalent Specialist or Master’s degree) in Emergency Surgical Officers.
  • Any other relevant qualifications in the healthcare sector (public health area) will be considered an added value.
  • Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English; knowledge of Amharic and Tigrinya.
  • At least two years of professional experience.
  • Previous experience with cooperation projects in the healthcare sector in emergency contexts (minimum 2 years).
  • Excellent computer skills: MS Windows, MS Word, and Excel.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Aptitude for working in critical contexts for the safety factor and for problem solving.
