Position: Early Warning Officer

Location: Addis Ababa

Salary: 746 USD

Job Summary:

The Early Warning Officer (EWO) is responsible for coordinating early warning data collection, analysis, and periodic reporting. The role involves participating in seasonal emergency need assessments, collaborating with local government offices and communities, and updating all concerned bodies on time. The EWO works closely with zonal government counterparts, the food cluster, and communities in JEOP woredas, including need assessments, context monitoring, vulnerability-based targeting (VBT), and market monitoring activities.

Skills and Educational Background:

  • Education: B.Sc. in Disaster Risk Management, Agriculture, Climate Change, DRR, or a related field.
  • Experience:
  • 3 years of relevant experience with a first degree.
  • 2 years of relevant experience for postgraduate degree holders in Disaster Risk Management and rural development.
  • NGO experience is a plus.
  • Supervisory skills are mandatory.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Exposure to and knowledge of food security, rural development, early warning, and disaster management.

Technical Skills:

  • Required:
  • Computer skills.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English and report writing skills.
  • Firm belief in teamwork, gender equality, sensitivity to HIV/AIDS, participatory approach, and sustainable development.
  • Desired:

Contacts/Key Relationships:

The EWO will maintain open and cordial relations with government offices, communities, and other partners regarding early warning and disaster management works. Additionally, the EWO will establish effective relationships with Project Managers, Humanitarian Team Leaders, and other concerned staff.

Working Conditions and Travel:

The EWO is based in the field office and will travel 50% of the time to assess and collect relevant early warning information at zonal, woreda, and community levels.
