Save the Children – Job Vacancies Announcement

Position: Fleet Officer

Location: Sekota FO, Amhara

Child Safeguarding:

All staff must adhere to the Child Safeguarding policy and related policies, conducting themselves in accordance with the rules, reporting suspicions of child abuse, and ensuring that their work does not put children at risk.

Role Purpose:

Ensure safety, security, and proper handling of SCI fleets, managing SCI Ethiopia, Waghimra FO vehicle fleet in compliance with standard procedures. Responsible for compiling Waghimra FO SCI vehicles performance reports.

Key Areas of Accountability:

  1. Handle regular preventive repair and maintenance of SCI-owned vehicles.
  2. Ensure efficient and timely repairs, maintenance, and service of vehicles.
  3. Provide monthly reports on vehicle status, repairs, fuel cost, servicing, abuse, speeding, and dangerous driving.
  4. Manage fleet operation, tracking, and reporting for efficiency.
  5. Manage drivers to ensure fleet availability and efficiency.
  6. Develop and implement best practice standards for vehicle maintenance.
  7. Analyze vehicle status and recommend timely replacements.
  8. Maintain the pool of vehicles and deploy them as needed.
  9. Manage accidents and repairs of mechanical and physical damages.

Job Responsibility:

Repair and Maintenance of Vehicles:

  • Handle minor maintenance works and disassemble/assemble various vehicle and generator parts.
  • Check, change, and refill different lubricants for all vehicles in a pool.
  • Test vehicles for roadworthiness and complete maintenance confirmation sheets.
  • Draft monthly maintenance plans and ensure implementation.
  • Ensure vehicles have appropriate tools and equipment for minor maintenance.
  • Verify that vehicle daily checks are conducted and report any issues.
  • Check/inspect vehicle conditions, prepare maintenance reports, and submit them.
  • Follow up, collect, and update vehicle maintenance and fuel-related information.
  • Prepare and submit monthly fuel consumption, maintenance, and repair reports.
  • Design and implement orientation, testing, and training sessions for drivers.

Other:

  • Conduct staff inductions on fleet management, safety, security, and personal responsibility.
  • Represent Save the Children in fleet management-related seminars or workshops.
  • Provide technical support to implementing partners.
  • Collaborate with the Supply Chain team for good coordination, communication, and planning.

Skills and Educational Background:

  • Diploma in Automotive Engineering or relevant field (Diploma in Transport Management is an added advantage).
  • Proven experience as a Mechanic.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety guidelines.
  • Good communication skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Grade 3 driving license, Defensive Driving Certificate, and a clean Police record.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in Fleet operations management.
  • Mechanical experience in repairing motors.
  • Proficient in using GPS Tracking System.
  • Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Additional Note:

Hardship allowance will be paid – 50% of the basic salary for Female staff and 40% of the basic salary for Male staff.
